For Crying Out Loud, how many Indian students have been assaulted?? 3 perhaps. Ok, one was murdered, but that doesn't necessarily mean that we're actively targeting them. All this came about because the son of a prominent and rich politician got slain, and the Indian media decided to roll with it, and whip up an exaggerated frenzy. Now from what I can gather, it's not uncommon for the Indian media to instigate mass unrest and hysteria. The Australian media decided to get in on the act and over inflated the 'Racially targeted Indian Student Assaults Statistics'. Then the general sheeple of both continents just swallowed it all, and presto instant racially motivated violence, induced paranoia. Thanks once again to the clearly amoral media drumming up sales. The truth of the matter is that like Bludge said, Indian students are no more targeted than any other student. Any foreign student is usually considered an easy target by the unscrupulous clearly due to the perception of them having money. While some of this is true, most of the time it isn't. Indian's here have just jumped on the bandwagon, due to some perceived threat or disadvantage and of course the media just laps it up. The vast majority of them have never experienced racially motivated violence, and are just whinging because of being disgruntled with their life/work/other prospects. Like Bludge said, this hasn't put a dampener on the mass migration of Indian/foreign students occupying most positions at Unis. I have first hand experienced the preference of Unis for full fee paying foreigners over Australian citizens, and I find it absolutely repugnant. So much for equality in access. Unfortunately, we're now reaping the rewards for the Uni's greed. Look at any hospital, medical or legal profession, and one will find most of the higher positions are held by non-English speaking people. I'm all for equal opportunity, but if a doctor is able to gain Australian qualifications from an Australian University, and to treat people in Australia, they should at least have BASIC literacy and English skills. I don't want to have a doctor look at me in a similar way to the puzzled looks I get from the cabbie that drove me to the hospital. Leave a Comment
